1. Seal Holes

Pests can find ways to get into your home, but you shouldn’t make it easy for them. Seal any holes or gaps around the exterior of your home. Fix screens that have been ripped or broken. Cover any vents with mesh wire that will prevent rodents from getting into your home through these holes.

2. Store Food Properly

Don’t leave food out. Make sure that everything is sealed tightly. Use sealed containers that pests won’t be able to penetrate to get to your food. This includes pet food, too. Even if you keep the food in the garage, it’s best to keep it in a sealed container that can’t be easily accessed. When you put food in your garbage container, take the time to tie the garbage bags and close the lid. You should clean the garbage cans on a regular basis, too.

If you spill any drinks, you should mop it up immediately. Liquid can attract pests, so make sure that the area is dry. Also, wash your dishes right away. When you leave dirty dishes in the sink, you are opening up your sink to pests. Make sure that your dishes are dried and put away. Then, you should clean your sink and remove any standing water.

4. Clean Your Floors

You should sweep, mop, and vacuum on a regular basis. Crumbs on the floor can quickly become a smorgasbord for pests. Keep all food in the kitchen so you can be assured that there aren’t crumbs throughout your home. Sweep after every meal, mop once a week or more if needed, and vacuum twice a week to make sure that your floors are clean and clear.
